Purchasing your garden room or garden office

When planning your new garden room, you’ll need to consider your budget, where you plan to put it, how you intend to use it and which features are important to you.

Your budget is a good place to start (our insulated, flat pack - self build garden rooms start from £7395 excluding vat and delivery) Our garden rooms are designed to be built from flat pack kit form and a person with competent DIY skills should find it fairly straight forward.

As well as the construction of your garden room, you might also want to include furnishings, electricity and a broadband connection.

Think about how much space you’d like inside the room and where in your garden would be best to locate it. Our self build garden rooms and garden offices are sturdy structures designed to last for many years, so it’s important to spend the time getting its position right and to provide a solid foundation.  In most cases you don't require planning permission for a garden room or garden office.

What will you use your new space for and how might that change in future? You can read more about popular uses below.

Our self build garden room kits include all of the materials and instructions needed to construct your new garden room.

Garden rooms last a long time, so think about how you might adapt it in future. Think about how you might want to adapt its use over time and keep your future needs in mind as well as current ones.

                                                        Garden Office

If you plan to work regularly in the space, you’re likely to need electricity for lighting and to run your equipment, as well as decent broadband.

Depending on how far from your main home the garden office will be, you might not be able to rely on the reach of your wi-fi. We advise you not to rely on obtaining wi-fi from your house, instead, run a network cable from your house to your garden office, this will ensure uninterrupted wi-fi as good as you have in your home.

Where to put your garden room or garden office?

The size of your outdoor space, and any trees and features, such as ponds, will affect where you can put your garden room.

Thinking from the inside out is a good idea, imagine where you'd like to sit in your new garden room or office to get the best views. Consider where the sun is in your garden both in summer, winter, morning and afternoon to help decide where you want to put it.

Putting your garden room or office  as far away from the house as possible ensures it feels like a separate space.

Once you have an idea of where you'd like your garden room to be, mark out the space  with lengths of timber so you can see what the foot print would look like. Stand inside as well as outside to visualise what it will look like and what your view will be.

Remember, all of our garden rooms are fully insulated and are designed to be used all year round.

Does a garden room add value to your home?

A garden room or garden office can be a great way to add additional living space separate from the main house, be it for entertainment, work or exercise. It can add value to your property, as well as adding to its general appeal and saleability, too.

The size and how it fits within your garden are important factors to think about.
